KENNEY, Kathryn ?Doreen? formerly of the Goodness Retirement Home, St. Thomas passed away peacefully with her loving family at her side at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital on Tuesday July 9th, 2013 in her 86th year. Loved sister of Raymond and his wife Dawna Kenney of Unionville, Joseph ?Dan? and his wife Joan Kenney of St. Thomas and was predeceased by her brother Clark Kenney. Doreen was born April 14th, 1928 in St. Thomas the daughter of the late Hazel (Clarke) and John Kenney. Doreen worked for St. Thomas Coin Sales with Vince Barrie, following his death she continued to work with Marianne Barrie and they became lifelong friends. She will be sadly missed by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Anne?s Church on Friday July 12th at 10:00 a.m. Interment of ashes to follow in Holy Angels Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer?s Society in memory of Doreen. Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas entrusted with the arrangements.
The Williams Funeral Home was founded in 1893 by P.R. Williams and is one of the oldest Funeral businesses in the province. Over the next seven decades the business was passed down through several generations in the Williams Family. In the eariler years they occupied a number of different buildings along Talbot Street and in 1929 they purchased the building at 45 Elgin Street, from which they still operate. In 1966, Gordon Hughson, who had operated the Hughson Funeral Home in Aylmer for the previous twenty one years, purchased the funeral home and continued the long tradition of dedication and service. Currently, the funeral home is operated by his sons, Allan and Gary Hughson.
