Guest blogger Jemima Eames: Emotional Freedom Technique (EMT)

For our blog post this week, we welcome our guest blogger Jemima Eames, our EFT practitioner.

EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) has been around since the 80?s. It is described as ?acupuncture without the needles? and is a process of tapping specific points on the head and hands. The tapping clears blockages in the energy system which then reduces anxiety, stress, emotion and pain.

Our Universe is made of energy ? Einstein discovered this. Everything you see, touch and feel is energy. There are channels of energy that flow through our bodies identified in Chinese medicine as Meridians. Each Meridian relates to a different organ and a different emotion. For example, the stomach meridian is associated with fear. This may explain why some people eat when they are anxious ? it helps to suppress that emotion.

Sometimes these Meridians have blockages that stop the flow of energy which then builds up resulting in illness, physical pain and emotions being trapped in the body ? or as we all know it ? STRESS! Tapping on the point of the beginning of these lines sends a physical vibration along the energy line and an electrical pulse. This clears the blockage and allows the emotion or pain to release. Whilst tapping on the points the feeling is described, focussing on the issue and speeding up the release. For example, if you had a pain in your knee you would tap on the points whilst saying out loud: ?This pain in my knee.?

Roger Callahan was a psychotherapist working in California in the 80?s. He had a client who he had been working with for 2 years on a chronic water phobia ? she couldn?t drive over bridges or bathe her children when they started working together. One day they were sitting in his garden and she said that when she thought about the water she had all this fear in her stomach. On a hunch he told her to tap on the stomach/fear point (under the eye). She sat tapping for a few minutes then opened her eyes saying ?It?s gone!? She ran into the neighbours garden and splashed the water in their pool ? her phobia had completely gone and never came back. This was the birth of EFT. It was further developed by Gary Craig and it has grown hugely since that time. It is now used by millions of people worldwide every day for all sorts of issues.

EFT is quick, effective, easy and can be self-applied. It has a 95% success rate and has no side effects. It is very effective for PTSD, food issues, sleep issues, stress release, phobias, physical pain, bereavement, trauma, abuse, anxiety, panic attacks?. the list goes on. Why does it work for all these things? Because whatever the issue you would like to clear feels a certain way in your body and that is where you start.
