Online education startup Coursera has joined with 29 more universities to offer free courses on its platform.

Northwestern University is one of 29 more schools that have partnered with Coursera to offer massive, online, open classes, or MOOCs, according to a report by VentureBeat.
Coursera now counts 62 schools offering courses on its platform, and in this latest group, 16 schools are located overseas, VentureBeat said. The Daily Northwestern reported that Northwestern students can?t receive credit for Coursera?s offerings, but that for-credit online courses would be available in the fall through Semester Online, which, according to its web site, is a consortium of colleges and universities including Duke University, Emory University, and Washington University in St. Louis as well as Northwestern.
In January, the New York Times reported on Coursera?s efforts to monetize, saying the company hasn?t yet articulated a way to profitability and that its first significant revenue actually came from Amazon referrals. Ron Leuty of the San Francisco Business Times is in the midst of reporting on his experience with MOOCs, including a class on Coursera.
